Final Dover Visit 25th August 2008

Posted by Mr Will Sergi on August 25, 2008 at 19:49 - Filed under Dover Channel Swimming Club

Today I went to Dover to swim for what may be the last time ever. It was a memorable one especially as I almost got my first Bollocking from the general (Freeda Streeter)

25th August 2008

I swam for what may well be my last ever time in Dover with my dad.  I arrived at 0830 as normal and was greeted by Freeda Streeter.   She set me a six hour swim for which I soon started to get ready for.

Now normally when I swim in Dover, I see people down the far end of the harbour wall out of sight, munching on chocolate bars etc that they managed to stow away in there trunks.   Not wanting to be left out I decided that today for the first time ever, I would join in the ritual and therefore sneaked some chocolatey treats out of my daughters secret store (which is now not so secret any more)

I stood on the beach in my speedo's chatting to my dad and other fellow swimmers and whilst engrosed in conversation did not think as I started packing the funsized treats into the rim of my swimware.

All of a sudden I could feel the burning of stareing eyes and became all to aware that the people who I was talking to were no longer looking at me but beyound me.  I turned around to see what they were looking at only to see Freeda's eyes firmly Fixed on the confectionary shaped bulges that I had packed in to my trunks.

With very few words said and the silence defening, I very slowly removed all the sweets one by one, and made my way very quietly to the waters edge.   By not trying to make excuses I think I saved myself from my first bollocking by the General, and it seems that 6 hours and 10 minutes later the whole situation was almost forgotten about.    Now im back in the safety of my own home, I am willing to admit that due to the shape of my "Curley Wurley" it was never found.

I was all set to eat it after 5 hours by the harbour wall when I looked up and saw two people looking strainght at me through binoculars.   Were these the General's spies?  I guess I will never know!!
