August 2008
During August 2008 I did my first night swim to get me used to swimming through the night on my real crossing. Tony, Gary and I set out in Tony's RIB and caught the 2100 lock out of Eastbourne marina. I do remember getting some strange looks sitting at the front in a swimming hat and goggles with a light stick strapped to my head.
When we were about half a mile out, I took the plunge and was immediately aware of the sence of lonelyness that was made even worse by the blackness of the night.
I followed the boat that was lit up by the glow of a maglight and found that as long as you didnt stop and think about where you were it was manageable.
It must be said however that it was another great experience but one I don't want to repeat to many times.
Thanks Gary and Tony!!!
