Cuckmere 2008
To introduce myself to cold water swimming I decided that it would be a nice idea to start swimming at this local beauty spot to help start the acclimatisation process begin.
The first time I got in, it suddenly occurred to me why I had never seen anyone swimming in this river. The temperature was just touching 6 degrees and there was still traces of ice in the shaded parts.
I will always remember the look on peoples faces as I swam past the car park. In all honesty im not sure what I was doing there myself so I had no chance of delivering a convincing reason to others.
Me and my brother, John Ready again
The Cuckmere soon became on old friend and others joined me at times , not always in the water but well wishers would come and have a look at what was going on, I think partly to check that I was really doing what I said I was.
Me and Mark
The water in the river is green and salty, with large build ups of sludge to sink your hands into if you don't take the bends carefully. The pictures of the Cuckmere are beautiful I will admit, but bare in mind when your looking at them that the air temperature was around 5 degrees throughout!!!!!
